  • Social Entrepreneur | Economic Justice Advocate | Speaker | Host of The Purpose Profit Shift Podcast

    Rachel Bernier-Green is a recovering public accountant turned serial social entrepreneur, economic justice advocate, educator, and speaker. Rachel has devoted the past decade to building for-profit businesses that drive catalytic social and environmental change, including 'Laine's Bake Shop and Thryvo Financial Advisory (formerly known as EJ Consortium). Much of her work focuses on directly addressing the issue of wealth inequality through employee education and more equitable ownership structures. Her focus on creating wealth for her employees and impoverished communities, reducing crime and recidivism, increasing quality food access, and pushing for restorative and economic justice has drawn the attention of the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Fox, Chicago Sun-Times, and Eater.

    In 2022, Rachel launched Thryvo Financial Advisory, which is an operations, finance, and change management consulting firm for purpose-driven enterprises.

    Thryvo Financial Advisory uses a proprietary consulting framework for building community wealth to empower businesses to amplify their impact. Along with her work building Thryvo, in July 2023, Rachel joined the team at Torana Group, a novel investment firm that helps people invest in their convictions, as the Investment Officer for the Proofing Station fund. Rachel also recently served as the Interim Deputy Director of Operations and Finance for Arts Alliance Illinois.

    A notable speaker and accomplished pitch competitor, Rachel has participated in national incubators for emerging enterprises, represented the Artisan Grain Collaborative in Food | Land | Opportunity’s Food to Market Challenge, and won the Chicago Chapter of Conscious Capitalism pitch competition.

    Before her career in social entrepreneurship, Rachel worked in accounting, finance, and operations roles at KPMG, State Farm, and PriceWaterhouseCoopers. Rachel obtained her Master of Science in Taxation (2012) and her Bachelor of Science degrees (2009) in Accounting and Finance while minoring in the prestigious Hoeft Technology & Management Program from the University of Illinois at Urbana—Champaign. She currently serves on the Steering Committee for the Artisan Grain Collaborative, the IL Small Business Equity Council, and the Small Business Majority’s National Small Business Advocacy Council.
